URBAN: Thank you so much for taking part in this interview project. How long are you into street photography?
NICK: For about 2 years I have been consciously and actively photographing on the streets. In this very short time I have learned a lot about myself, people and photography. Street photography means a lot to me.
URBAN: Why street photography?
NICK: I love street photography because no day is like the other. Through this genre you notice how rapidly the city changes. For me as a photographer it is a great challenge. As a landscape photographer, you can take the same photo again the next day. A rare moment on the streets probably never comes back. For me, street photography is a kind of modern adventure – I look at the world around me in a completely different and much more conscious way.
URBAN: Can you advise some books that inspired you?
NICK: Saul Leiter – Early Color / Magnum – Contact Sheets / Henri Cartier-Bresson – Meisterwerke / Fred Herzog – Modern color / Joel Meyerowitz – Where I Find Myself /
URBAN: Can you suggest some photographers to follow?
NICK:There are so many I can mention now. But I’m trying. @nicofroe / @katerina__christina / @joakkin_stree / @kaiziehl /@sixstreetunder / @joshkjack / @spicy.meatball – I have tried to cover as wide a range of different styles as possible. But there are so many more that I would like to mention now.
URBAN:What are your favourite cities for street photography?
NICK: Lisbon is the city where I had the most fun as a photographer and where I really want to go again. Lisbon is full of possibilities and different scenes. There are many cities where I would like to take pictures. At the moment it is probably New York – I am planning a trip there next winter and can’t wait.
URBAN: This weekend you will be the curator of ‘U R URBAN’, what is about?
NICK: ‘U R Urban’ offers everyone the opportunity to become a guest curator themselves. It works very easily: you can send your favourites images of hashtag #urbanstreetPhotogallery, the best selections will be published on the Instagram gallery. All you have to do is to send the images to @sleepingastronaut on Istagram. I am looking forward to see the best shots!
